Cement Sector Update

Cement Sector update (Dec 2010) is as follows:

• Cement dispatches recovered from a poor November showing (dispatches were down 6% yoy) to post a 3% rise in Dec' 10 as per monthly data released by six cement players; sequential growth in dispatches surged 20%  
  
• December dispatch growth is lower than the usual 8-9% seen at this time of the year; albeit we expect demand to pick up due to the onset of peak construction season 
  
• On the pricing front, western region saw price rise of Rs10-25/bag while it remained soft in North as demand remains subdued post the completion of construction related to Commonwealth Games.
